Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire Unveils Enticing Final Trailer, Promising Fans an Epic Adventure

Sharing is caring!

For 40 years, Ghostbusters movies have haunted the world of pop culture. The newest installment in this iconic franchise comes just two years after the success of Jason Reitman’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife. This iteration offers what die-hard fans have wanted for years: an original cast reunion, plus more.

This horror-comedy franchise spans several generations of audiences, making it challenging to keep everyone happy. Director Gil Kenan had a simple idea to thrill fans of all ages in the latest movie, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire: include the original cast, along with franchise newcomers.

While this seems like a simple solution, a total Ghostbusters reunion has never happened. Some original cast members, like Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver, and Annie Potts, made cameos in Afterlife. Still, those characters were only a tiny part of the story. Even with fans desperately asking for the band to get back together, something always prevented it. Until now, that is.

The OG Ghostbusting Cast Returns and Reunites

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire will feature the original spectral-hunting cast, including Murray, Aykroyd, Hudson, and even the late Harold Ramis, who’ll make some brief cameos with the help of CGI and body doubles. How Kenan got all this fantastic talent to rejoin for the film is anyone’s guess. But he says that the original characters are integral to the story, unlike some nostalgia cash grabs that come out in recent years.

In this movie, Egon Spengler’s family returns to New York City, where they meet up with the other original Ghostbusters, Dr. Peter Venkman (Murray),  Ray Stantz (Aykroyd), and Winston Zeddemore (Hudson). Potts also returns with a key role in this film.

“That’s the moment that’s really thrilling for me as a Ghostbusters fan: watching their involvement in the story redefine itself, grow and become more fully fleshed out in a way that speaks to the promise of the original Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters 2, and what was glimpsed in the fields outside of Summerville in Afterlife,” Kenan said in a recent interview. “There’s a direct line from there into who they are now and how they act here in our new story.”

The film also includes talented actors like Paul Rudd, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, Patton Oswalt, Celeste O’Conner, Carrie Coon, Kumail Nanjiani, and James Acaster. Even without the Ghostbusters legacy attached to the film, the acting power involved should be reason enough to see this much-anticipated movie!

A New Icy Cold Enemy

The final trailer before release gives us a deeper look into what the Ghostbusters will face off against this time. After discovering an ancient artifact, new and old Ghostbusters will battle to defeat an ancient evil, unlike anything they’ve faced before

On top of duking it out with an ice demon called Garraka who can scare people to death and threaten to send the Big Apple into a new ice age, the team will have to face off against an army of the undead. This army contains every single ghost the Ghostbusters have ever captured. Kenan has definitely raised the stakes for this sequel!

The Long Wait’s Almost Over

Frozen Empire promises to capitalize on the franchise’s perfect history of blending horror and comedy. The trailer shows insider jokes involving the  original1984 movie’s Stay Puft Marshmallow Man, before switching to scenes of death and destruction. As always, it’s just spooky enough for the whole family to enjoy.

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire will be released in theaters on March 22, 2024.
