10 Notable People Who Died in 2024
Though the year is still in its infancy, it has unfortunately seen many celebrities who are near and dear to us pass away. This has been a tough year for celebrity passings, from actors to comedians to fashion designers and all that lies between.
Today, we will look at some celebrities who are gone but not forgotten. Let us take a moment to recognize and respect their beautiful lives, the work that defined them, and, in some cases, generations.
1. M. Emmett Walsh
The film critic Roger Ebert is quoted as having said that “no movie featuring either Harry Dean Stanton or M. Emmet Walsh in a supporting role can be altogether bad.” So was the impact left by the totemic talent M. Emmett Walsh. With a list of credits including Midnight Cowboy, Serpico, and What’s Up, Doc, Walsh’s filmography proves time and time again why he was one of the greatest character actors ever to grace the silver screen.
2. Richard Lewis
Stand-up comedian and Curb Your Enthusiasm mainstay Richard Lewis passed away this year, leaving behind a legacy of comedic performances, including Mel Brooks’ 1993 comedy Robin Hood: Men in Tights and the ABC sitcom Anything but Love. A titan of 80s comedy for his neurotic, often self-deprecating style, his presence and comedic wit will be dearly missed.
3. Carl Weathers
Memorable in supporting roles in classic genre films such as John McTiernan’s Predator and Dennis Dugan’s Happy Gilmore, Carl Weathers was known as a strong physical presence. His physique was honed from years of playing football for the Oakland Raiders. He also had a personality presence that he’d subvert in comedic roles, like his extended cameo in the cult sitcom Arrested Development. He was a towering presence in the film world who shall be dearly missed.
4. Chita Rivera
An iconic, Tony-award-winning actress best known for her work in shows such as Guys and Dolls, West Side Story, and Chicago, Chita Rivera was known for her skill in classical ballet, as well as her work with the brilliant playwrights Bob Fosse and Fred Eb.

5. Toby Keith
Country star Toby Keith passed away this year, leaving with him a long list of contemporary country staples, including ‘Beer for My Horses,” “Shoulda Been a Cowboy,” and “How Do You Like Me Now?” Touching country greats like Willie Nelson and Ricky Scaggs, Keith’s legacy is one of music that transcends time.
6. Glynis Johns
One of the last surviving members of Hollywood’s Golden Age, Glynis Johns worked with many of the greatest directors of the era. She worked with the great Powell and Pressburger on 49th Parallel, George Cukor on The Chapman Report, and Walt Disney’s iconic musical, 1964’s Mary Poppins. Known for her light presence and husky singing voice, Johns was a natural for the types of femme fatale roles often cast. She was a significant loss for the film community.
7. Alec Musser
Soap opera star Alec Musser passed away this year at fifty. Taking over the role of Del Henry from fellow soap opera actor Winsor Harmon on All My Children, Musser’s rise to stardom is an unusual story. After modeling for many years, Musser won his role in a context on the reality television show I Wanna Be a Soap Star. One thing led to another, and Musser ultimately became one of the most successful stars on one of the most successful soap operas in television history.

8. Robyn Bernard
Another star of the small screen, Bernard was best known as Terry Brock in the long-running soap opera General Hospital, the longest-running soap opera in American television history. Co-starring in several other sitcoms of the 80s, including Whiz Kids, Simon and Simon, and The Facts of Life, Bernard’s passing leaves a giant rift in the soap opera community.
9. Gary Graham
Veteran sci-fi television actor Gary Graham is best known for having starred in Star Trek: Enterprise as Soval, the Vulcan ambassador to Earth. To non-Trekkies, however, Graham may be known as having acted in The Hollywood Knights, All the Right Moves, and Paul Schrader’s Hardcore.
10. Bill Hayes
American singer and actor Bill Hayes will forever be known as the singer of the classic country-western song, ‘The Ballad of Davy Crockett.’ However, if one were to look beyond that behemoth of a song, one would find many iconic roles, not least of which is the role of Doug Williams on the long-running Days of Our Lives. Originating in 1970, he continued playing the character until retiring from the show in 2023. He is a modern-day Renaissance man who will be dearly missed.
