22 People You May Not Know Made an Appearance in Marvel Movies

More than 30 Marvel films currently make up the Marvel Cinematic Universe, or MCU. That doesn’t include the 20-plus TV shows in the franchise canon! It would take a die-hard fan over 120 hours, or 50 days, to consume all the media that makes up the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

With all of this media, audiences may miss a cameo or two. But if you dig through the film’s casting lists, you’ll find some surprising cameos in these films. From rock stars to tech wizards, everybody has been in a Marvel movie at some point.

1. Garrett Morris

Saturday Night Live is a continuous source of fantastic talent. One of the show’s original cast members, Garrett Morris, appears in the Marvel film Ant-Man. The comedian has a small part playing a cab driver. He also performed an Ant-Man skit on SNL back in 1979.

2. Rob Zombie

James Gunn and Rob Zombie are good friends who often collaborate on projects. Their friendship returns to the beginning of their careers when Gunn cast the rocker in his first film, Slither. That’s why it was no surprise to hear Mr. Zombie’s voice as the Ravager navigator in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

3. Joe Russo

Avengers: Endgame is a massive film requiring a lot of background actors. That’s why director Joe Russo inserted himself into the self-help group scene in Avengers: Endgame, marking his fourth self-insert in the MCU.

4. Kevin Smith

Kevin Smith is a lifelong comic book fan; he even owns a comic shop in New Jersey! Eventually, his love of comic books would lead to the creation of his reality TV show, Comic Book Men. Knowing this, it’s no surprise that he jumped on the chance to play a forensic assistant in the Marvel film Daredevil.

5. Jenna Ortega

After her work on Wednesday, Jenna Ortega is quickly becoming one of the best-known actors of her generation. But the star got her start playing the vice president’s daughter in Iron Man 3. Regarding starting places, it takes a lot of work to beat an MCU film.

6. Tom Morello

Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello worked on the soundtracks for Ironman and Ironman 2. He also played a small role in the first film as a member of the Ten Rings.

7. Danny Pudi

The Russo brothers pulled in another Community alumni for their film Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Danny Pudi makes an appearance as a comms tech in the movie. Joe Russo personally called Pudi to invite him to be part of the film.

8. Jim Starlin

Who better to include in Avengers: Endgame than Thanos creator Jim Starlin? He created the iconic villain in 1973. He first used Thanos in The Invincible Iron Man comic #55. We can see Starlin in the survivor’s support group held by Steve Rodgers.

9. Elon Musk

If there were a real-world Iron Man, it would be Elon Musk! So, it only makes sense that Musk shows up to play himself in Iron Man 2.

10. Tim Heidecker

Rising to fame during the Adult Swim craze, Tim Heidecker has proven to be one of our wackiest comedians. He showcased his talents with his cameos in The Fantastic Four and Ant-Man and the Wasp.

11. Ben Falcone and Melissa McCarthy

In what may be the cutest thing ever to happen in the MCU, married couple Ben Falcone and Melissa McCarthy sent in an audition tape begging to be involved in Thor: Love and Thunder. The couple’s wish was granted, and they appeared as part of the Asgardian theater troupe.

12. Luke Hemsworth

Chris Hemsworth is associated with his role as Thor in the MCU. In some meta humor, his older brother Luke has a role in Thor: Ragnarök as one of Loki’s actors playing Thor.

13. Trevor Noah

In comedic journalism, there’s no more prominent name than Trevor Noah. The Daily Show host appeared in Black Panther as the Wakanda AI system controlling the flight systems.

14. Matt Damon

No one on the set of Thor: Ragnarök expected to see Matt Damon in the film. Even screenwriter Eric Pearson was shocked to see the celebrity performing the bit part. Damon’s role was kept a secret from the cast to prevent his role from being leaked to the media.

15. Nathan Fillion

Everyone’s favorite space cowboy, Nathan Fillion, plays Master Karja in Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3. Fillion initially wanted a role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, but the character was written out of the script.

16. Little Simz

Popular U.K. Rapper Little Simz plays herself in Venom: Let There Be Carnage. Lead actor Tom Hardy is a fan of her music and asked her to be a part of the film. At Hardy’s request, she also remixed her song “Venom” for the movie.

17. Jenna Coleman

While primarily known for her work on Doctor Who, Jenna Coleman performed her first film role in Captain America: The First Avenger in the role of Bucky Barnes’ date at the Stark Expo.

18. Miley Cyrus

The post-credits scene of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 offered audiences a glimpse of the character Mainframe. Miley Cyrus was the voice for this robotic figure, but Tara Strong played the character in the franchise’s third installment.

19. Ken Jeong

Doctor-turned-comedian Ken Jeong appears as a security guard in Avengers: Endgame. Jeong had previously worked with directors Joe and Anthony Russo on the hit show Community. His wild performance as Ben Chang catapulted Jeong to stardom, and he remains a fan favorite on the show.

20. Natalie Dormer

Before finding fame, thanks to her part in Game of Thrones, Natalie Dormer played a small part as Private Lorraine in Captain America: The First Avenger. Dormer is now known as an incredibly talented actor, leading fans to believe the MCU missed out by underusing her.

21. Peter Billingsley

The MCU as we know it would only exist with the success of the first Iron Man film. Surprisingly, we have A Christmas Story star Peter Billingsley to thank for that. Billingsley served as executive producer on the film and helped get the project off the ground. As a fan of the Iron Man character, Billingsley was happy to work on the project and appeared as William Ginter Riva in the film.

22. Kate Mara

Kate Mara’s work in films such as Brokeback Mountain established her as one of today’s most talented actresses. She appeared as a U.S. Marshal in Iron Man 2 early in her career. At the time, Mara was already a rising star and only took the role because she believed it would lead to a more significant role in the future.
