Top 10 Necessities for Kids, According to Boomers
With the world moving at a rapid pace, kids are missing out on tons of things that boomers got to experience. While the technological boom has been a great source of innovation and ideas, there are things youngsters today simply don’t understand they need. According to boomers, here are ten necessities that the younger generation desperately requires.
1. Tolerance for Boredom
We’ve all been guilty of trying to occupy our minds with different activities whenever we can’t find something fun to do. Whether we play some video games, watch a couple of Netflix shows, or take on some extra work, it’s all in an attempt to cure our boredom. One user talks about how instant gratification has poisoned the younger generation, so instead of savoring the moment, they just jump on to the next task to conquer.
2. Letting Kids Be Kids
With increasing technological advancements, kids have to grow up much quicker than they’re supposed to. The constant burden of being politically accurate, wearing particular types of clothes, following pop culture, being academically competitive, all the while getting a good night’s sleep is just too much. Perfection doesn’t exist, and expecting it from kids is simply outrageous.
3. Optimism
While it’s true that the current state of our planet is quite depressing, it doesn’t mean you can’t live your life without some level of optimism. Many seem to think that youngsters have become so pessimistic that it’s impossible to convince them to look at the brighter side. It is essential to be realistic, but that does not mean one should always look at the ugly. It’s the same as the glass half full or half empty analogy; it’s all a matter of perspective.
4. Ability To Make Mistakes Without Being Recorded
Many kids want to be perfect because mistakes always accompany a public spectacle. Because of Instagram, Snapchat, Threads, and other social media outlets, every tiny little thing you do can end up becoming a viral meme on the internet. The digital world is an unforgiving place, so if you make a mistake, you’ll be subjected to “cancel culture” immediately.

5. Longer Attention Span
With short-form content becoming an all-time favorite amongst kids, attention spans have been minimized to a rice grain. Kids can’t seem to concentrate in classes, sit and complete a task they started, or even focus on a conversation that’s taking place right in front of them. Being able to have focus hours is crucial for their well-being.
6. A Walk in the Park
This seems like such a benign thing to add to the list, but boy, it is needed. When everyone is lost in the maze of their life, it gets really easy to stay huddled indoors and never leave. Hoping from university to a cafe to your house does not count as outside. To get a whiff of fresh air and really get those lungs up and running again, a walk in the park is crucial.
7. Unstructured Play in Sports
Nowadays, every time you hear the word sport, it mostly means soccer, baseball, or a proper sport with all the right rules. Back in the day, kids would huddle together, make up their little games, and just play to have a blast. Adult administration makes the sport more professional and formal as opposed to whipping up a quick batch of guidelines and going with the flow.

8. More Social Interaction
From talking to dating to activities, everything is readily available right in your pocket. This makes social interaction very hard. And I’m not talking about texting your group chat. I’m talking about actually making a plan and meeting them in real life. The ease of intangible connection encourages kids to stay in their shells.
9. Lack of Helicopter Parenting
Gen Z is often coddled by their parents, babying them for most of their lives. Without giving children the freedom to make their own decisions, they will never learn how to. By meticulously monitoring every step the kid takes, you’re basically limiting their potential to exist in the world without needing you.
10. Someone To Tell Them No
Agreeing to every single whim can make children develop a sense of entitlement, believing that they should always get what they want. This mindset can be very damaging for them in the future. It’s important to gently remind them that the real world operates differently, and despite their strong desires, they won’t always be able to have everything that they wish for.
